As a Minnesota-born artist in Florence, Italy, I weave my American roots into the tapestry of my blossoming Italian life. Through my work – whether painting evocative portraits, sharing stories of my journey, or finding inspiration as a muse – I celebrate the individuality, diversity, and fleeting magic of being human.
I use traditional oil painting techniques to explore what it means to be human in today’s world. My art is inspired by timeless methods, but my perspective is modern – progressive, inclusive, and unafraid to challenge the status quo. By blending the old with the new, I hope to create work that celebrates individuality and diversity, embracing the poetry and softness in every subject I paint.
For some, Florence is a dream destination. For me, it’s home. My love affair with this city began when I was a teenager visiting on a family vacation. Walking the cobblestone streets, I turned to my parents and declared, “I’m going to move here someday!” In 2021, I made good on that promise, driven by my passion for painting and the artistic traditions Florence embodies.
Art has been a guiding light throughout my life. As a child, I spent countless hours painting, drawing, and creating. What began as play evolved into a calling – to honor not just appearances but the stories, resilience, and individuality that make each of us extraordinary.
Today, I live and work in Florence, blending my classical training with a progressive vision to create portraits that are as nuanced and layered as the people they represent. Whether capturing the quiet strength of a nontraditional beauty or the boldness of a marginalized identity, my work seeks to reflect the richness of the human experience.
Having struggled with an eating disorder in the past and attending a recovery program, I’ve come to believe in the poetry of all bodies. Through my work, I strive to celebrate and show the beauty in every shape, size, and form. There is no “ideal” body – just the uniqueness and richness of human experiences, worthy of being portrayed and adored.
As a white American woman, doing the work of anti-racism is important to me, both in my life and in my art. I aspire for my portraits to honor and celebrate people of color, shining a light on the diversity of their stories. Art should represent everyone (not just old white rich dudes!), and I am committed to making space for that in my work.
My studio is a place where all identities are celebrated. Whether you fit the “beauty standard” or not, you are adored, and I believe you make the most powerful and compelling subjects for portraiture. Let’s amplify voices that haven’t been given enough space – your story is one that deserves to be told.
