A portrait can be more than a record of how someone looks. It can be a portal in which love transcends time and space, connecting us.
My work brings the traditions of classical oil painting into a conversation with a contemporary, inclusive perspective. I’m interested in portraying the space where the inner and outer self meet, and in creating portraits that feel as layered as the people they represent.

Philosophy behind my work
The highest form of portraiture is where the inner and outer realms meet.
My work grows from a desire to look beneath the masks society asks us to wear. I believe depicting someone honestly requires empathy, not simply observing the person before me, but remaining curious about the person beneath the surface.
Using traditional oil painting techniques, I create portraits that honor both the visible and invisible. Appearance, personality, history, and all the contradictions that make us human.

Meet KATRIN SCHROEDER
Katrin Schroeder is an accomplished artist and graphic designer originally from Roseville, Minnesota, now residing between the Midwest and the ethereal city of Florence, Italy. When she’s not skillfully fluttering a paintbrush, you can find Katrin flitting about the cobblestone streets, admiring the rich heritage the city offers (aka diving into gelato or a plate of fresh pasta) and taking inspiration from the Renaissance beauty that surrounds her.
