The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is an impossibly enlightened piece, dreamily guiding the reader through the various facets of life in the form of eloquent passages.
Admittedly, as big of a romantic as I am I don’t usually gravitate towards poetry, but this one will forever be nestled in a special place in my heart. Here’s why: throughout the second set of lockdowns in the winter of 2020, I was able to return briefly to Florence, Italy and spend the holidays cozied up safely with my now husband (aka model bae). During which time, he spent long afternoons reading this book to me front to back.
Gibran’s chapter ‘On Love’ quickly became our favorite, and once we decided to marry so we could be together we planned on reciting it during our ceremony for our guests. Little did we know the universe had a surprise in store for us on our big day – just before we were able to pull it out and read it, the woman conducting our ceremony said she had a special passage she had selected for us, and to our astonishment proceeded to read ‘On Love!’ ✨ goosebumps ✨
To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
